Agadir – Taroudant – Taliouine – Taznakht – Tisselday
We will pick you up early in the morning, at about 8:00, at your hotel or riyal in Agadir and begin our journey towards the south of Morocco. In Taroudant we will make our first stop. The old town of Taroudant is definitely worth seeing as it was one of the oldest capitals in time of Saadi dynasty, which ruled Morocco from 1549 to 1659. After exploring we will continue our way to Taliouine, the famous place for saffron. There you will have the option to visit the museum of safronn (Dar Azaafaran) if you like. We will also pause for lunch in Taliouine. Then we will drive on to Taznakht, which is well-known for its magnificent carpets. We will pause to admire the handmade carpets and visit some shops if you like. Our last destination for the day will be Tisselday, where you will spend the evening and night in a lovely Berber guesthouse.
Tisselday – Ait Ben Haddou – Ouarzazate – Agdez – Zagora
After breakfast in the guesthouse we will start our second day of travelling. The first stop we will make is to visit the beautiful Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou. This Kasbah, built of pieces of clay and included on Unesco’s list of World Heritage sites, is the most famous one in Morocco and was film set of many popular productions like Gladiator or Game of Thrones. After the visit we will continue to Ouarzazate, where the Draa Valley begins, the long oasis that extends until M’hamid and is full of date palms. It is certainly another impressive landscape to drive in. The most beautiful part of the Draa Valley with millions of date palms is between Agdez and Zagora. We will stop in a place where you can explore the palm oasis. In the evening we will arrive in Zagora, the city where you will eat your dinner and spend the second night in a riad that is typical for this part of Morocco.
Zagora – Tamegroute – Mhamid – Erg Chegaga
After breakfast in your riad, we will embark on our second day of travelling. Our first stop today will be in Tamegroute. There you will have the option both to visit the village that is famous for its library with books that are 900 years old, and to see in a manufactory which still uses traditional techniques for producing the green pottery typical for this region. Then our travel will lead us past the dunes of Tinfou where we can stop too if you like. After about one hour of driving we will arrive in M’hamid, the last village before desert. There we will take our break and eat lunch. At the end of the village the street ends, and our travel will continue through a varied landscape of stone desert, sand dunes and the plants of desert. And also, we will stop in the Oasis D’Oum Laalag. Our day’s journey will end in a bivouac between the dunes of Erg Chegaga. There you will have the option to try sandboarding, do dromedary trekking and enjoy a wonderful sunset. You will eat your dinner in the restaurant and spend the evening around a fire with traditional nomad music. On this, your third night, you will sleep in a tent between the sand dunes under a sky full of stars.
Erg Chegaga – Lake Iriki – Foum Zguit – Agadir
Early in the morning you will enjoy the sunrise in the dunes and see how the sun returns the colours of the desert to their typical red once again. After breakfast in the bivouac, the journey of our last day will lead us again through desert to Lake Iriki, a salt lake that is usually dry for some years and can reawaken to life again if there is a period with a lot of rain. Before arriving in Foum Zguit, the first village after desert, we will stop in a field with a lot of small fossils to discover. In Foum Zguit the familiar roads resume again, and they will bring us back to Agadir. For our lunch break we will pause at a good restaurant in a village on the route. In the evening we will arrive in Agadir and drop you off at your hotel or riad.
